Extra Curricular ActivitiesVisit the image gallery on our broadband optimised site here. SurfingStudents are given the opportunity to develop their surfing skills through our recreational sports program. Children learn how to ride a surfboard and how to read conditions at the beach. They are taught basic survival skills which are invaluable when living in a seaside environment. Walla RugbyOur students receive a great introduction to the sport of rugby union where they can develop ball skills and a sense of team work. This is an after school activity offered to interested participants. Parents cheering on the sideline add to the spirit of this event. School Bands and ChoirOur strings ensemble and school band perform at various functions in and out of the school. Our choir sings up a storm at special ceremonies like Carols by Candlelight and ANZAC Day. We have a well developed instrumental music program, with some children going on to receive scholarships for music at the high school level. Touch FootballChildren from our school participate in an afternoon touch football program. Teams from our school have achieved great success as a result of the Sports Development Program in our school. We compete against other schools in the district in the first and fourth terms. Seastars DancersYears 6 and 7 girls have the opportunity to develop their dance and performance skills as part of the Seastars performance group. The girls receive professional instruction and perform for the school and community throughout the year. Cross CountryOur runners are catered for with extra cross country practice outside of school hours. Jogging laps of the oval and special fitness training help to keep our students active and ensure we achieve well at district competitions. Swimming Lessons/Surf AwarenessThe local pool or beach provides welcome relief on a hot day. Children at CSPS are taught to swim from Prep to Year 5. Professional coaches are employed in intensive swimming blocks to ensure children can safely enjoy the Queensland summer. In Year 6 and 7 children travel to Kings Beach where lifeguards provide instruction on using the ocean safely. Children are given the chance to compete in a surf carnival like real lifesavers. LibraryOur Resource Centre is a great place to visit before school and at lunch time. Students are able to access the internet for research; play board games; do craft activities; colour a picture or watch an educational program via our Austar connection. The room has air-conditioning for the comfort of our students. Students also attend library lessons each week. MusicalDuring nominated years, children from all year levels are offered the opportunity to perform in a musical performance. One of the musicals performed was a Dr Suess production (Seussical) and was performed at the Kawana Community Centre. This is a brilliant opportunity for our talented students to show off their acting, dancing and singing abilities. Sports Development ProgramSelected students in Years 5, 6 and 7 are given the opportunity to participate in our Sports Development Program. Children are selected on their willingness to put 100% into all sporting endeavours. They receive fitness training each morning and specialist coaching once a week to improve their abilities in their chosen sport. We are the only school in our district currently employing this unique program. |
